'The International Scientific Conference ‘HYDRO(GEO)LOGY

On 18 October 2024, the international scientific conference ‘HYDRO(GEO)LOGY’ was held at the Institute of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice, at 60 Będzińska Street in Sosnowiec. The Institute of Earth Sciences Director, Prof. Ewa Łupikasza, opened the event.

The event was attended by 68 participants, including secondary school students, undergraduates, doctoral students, academics, and industry representatives.
The foreign university was represented by Prof. Vahid Nourani from the University of Tabriz (Iran), who gave a plenary lecture entitled “Hydrology and artificial intelligence in Earth sciences”. Professor Nourani has been cooperating with the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia for 10 years, resulting in many significant scientific publications on hydrology and hydrogeology.
In addition, in the first part of the conference, participants listened to two pop science lectures presented by Prof. Andrzej Witkowski (UŚ) and Dr Marek Sołtysiak (UŚ).
The second part of the conference was devoted to presentations prepared by doctoral students.
The event was realised in the City-Region-Academy band as part of the celebration of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 and was co-financed by the Silesian Voivodeship - the co-organiser of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.
